The internet sites contain a range of resources ranging from lesson material through to the latest news, lesson plans/ideas/material, downloadable material, links to current affairs sites and other sites of general interest.

Ready-to-use classroom material

Ready-to-use classroom material is a section containing 26 different types of material including audio. Each ready-to-use resource set has reading and writing exercises. Some include an audio sample. The resources incorporate articles to test various the students levels of comprehension, vocabulary, grammar and reading skills. The texts are varied from new sources to examining the lyrics of a popular singer and give you a good range of classroom resources to choose from.

Course unit overview

The EBC Online TESOL TEFL Certificate Course is divided into 10 Units

  • Unit 1 – Learning Styles - general issues about the learning cycle, different student types and different types of learning models.
  • Unit 2 – Motivation - touches on the different types of motivation techniques and issues in the classroom and the teacher’s responsibility.
  • Unit 3 – Classroom Interaction and Management – discusses techniques and theories behind discipline in the classroom. It also looks at teacher behaviour and practical classroom management techniques
  • Unit 4 – How to teach English Grammar - introduces some basic concepts of grammar, vocabulary, guidelines on presenting grammar and is intended for teachers who may have little experience in this area.
  • Unit 5 – How to teach vocabulary – introduces some basic concepts of vocabulary and guidelines on how to teach it. This is intended for teachers who may have little experience in this area.
  • Unit 6 – How to teach reading and writing – looks at examples for teaching two of the so-called "four skills" – reading and writing.
  • Unit 7 – How to teach speaking and listening – looks at examples for teaching two of the so-called "four skills" – listening and speaking.
  • Unit 8 – How to Plan Lessons Effectively – looks at lesson structure: language learning, presenting material, explanations and instructions. Explains lesson planning and why teachers have to plan. You will also find examples of lesson plans and activities to use in class for students of all levels.
  • Unit 9 – The teacher in action – observe and analyse TEFL teachers in action.
  • Unit 10 – Information, Resources and Jobs – information about jobs, job prospects, teaching resources and information about how to enrol for our 8 hour teaching practice module.

This is a bit of a philosophical one to start with, but it's important that you get a good idea about what learning is, how people learn and different learner profiles before you try and teach.
