Description of the main areas covered during the two week teaching practice module
Reinforcement of what you learned on the online course
You will study alongside our residential TEFL course students and attend the same input sessions as they do during weeks two and three of the residential course. This is done to help reinforce what you covered during the online course. It also provides you with the opportunity to practice and rehearse your lessons before you teach your first practice classes on day four of the two week teaching practice module.
Teaching practice
You will teach eight lessons during the two week teaching practice module. Prior to delivering your classes you will have planned and rehearsed your lessons to ensure that you feel confident.
Four additional lesson plans
You will have built four lesson plans during the online course. You will have to create an additional four lesson plans in the same format as you used during the online course. This will give you the total of eight plans that you must teach during the two week teaching practice module.
Motivation essay
The work towards the finished essay comprises two parts. The first part is that you observe a lesson given by one of your peers and note down the points during the lesson when attention and motivation change. Based on these observations you must write a 700 to 1,000 word essay to explain what you saw in the classroom and then compare this to the motivation theory that you learned earlier in the course.
One to One assignment
The One-to-One assignment demands that you find a real non-English speaking student who you will then interview to determine a specific learning requirement. You must research and prepare an extended study programme of between 12 and 20 hours study in order to fulfil the learning requirement. Due to time constraints this assignment cannot be taught during the course but it is thoroughly examined for consistency and coherency by your course trainer and feedback is given. This assignment is mainly done as homework.
