Online TEFL courses

Online TEFL training course with teaching practice

Accredited hybrid TEFL course

Introduction

What is a hybrid course?

A hybrid course has two components

  • Online training - in this case the EBC Online TESOL TEFL Certificate course
  • Practicum - in this case the EBC two week residential teaching practice module

Why does EBC offer a hybrid course?

Traditionally, the only way you could gain this real life teaching practice experience was by attending a 4 week course, like the EBC International TEFL Certificate course. As the world progresses and technology improves, the physical need to be in a classroom with your course trainer for your classroom training becomes less necessary. In an ideal world, it would be better to physically attend a course, but with today’s life-style, alternatives must be found.

EBC innovation

EBC has changed this perspective on teacher training and now offers the EBC hybrid TEFL Certificate Course with a 2 week teaching practice unit. The teaching practice unit includes observed teaching practice given to learners at all levels and will give you that much needed advantage over other online only certificate holders that are competing with you for the same jobs.

You may not be able to take 4 weeks off from work or family commitments so the EBC hybrid TEFL Certificate Course gives you the opportunity to get trained as an English teacher, and allows you to work at your own pace and in your own time. The EBC hybrid TEFL Certificate Course is a great way to learn how to become an English teacher in a way that is both convenient and accessible.

How does it work?

  • You take the EBC Online TESOL TEFL Certificate course
  • You then attend the EBC two week residential teaching practice module in our Madrid or Buenos Aires campus locations

What are the benefits of a hybrid course?

  • Flexibility - you don't have to commit to a set study schedule.
  • Study at your own pace - as the theory of teaching is learned online, you can study when you want to.
  • Expense - the hybrid course is 20% cheaper than the residential course.
  • Official certification - you get the same EBC International Certificate in TESOL that our residential course students get.
  • Less time away from home - the teaching practice module takes half the time to complete as the residential course.
  • Less money spent on living away from home - the teaching practice module only lasts for two weeks versus the residential course that runs for four weeks.

Description of the main areas covered during the two week teaching practice module

Reinforcement of what you learned on the online course

You will study alongside our residential TEFL course students and attend the same input sessions as they do during weeks two and three of the residential course. This is done ro help reinforce what you covered during the online course. It also provides you with the opportunity to practice and rehearse your lessons before you teach your first practice classes on day four of the two week teaching practice module.

Teaching practice

You will teach eight lessons during the two week teaching practice module. Prior to delivering your classes you will have planned and rehearsed your lessons to ensure that you feel confident.

Four additional lesson plans

You will have built four lesson plans during the online course. You will have to create an additional four lesson plans in the same format as you used during the online course. This will give you the total of eight plans that you must teach during the two week teaching practice module.

Motivation essay

The work towards the finished essay comprises two parts. The first part is that you observe a lesson given by one of your peers and note down the points during the lesson when attention and motivation change. Based on these observations you must write a 700 to 1,000 word essay to explain what you saw in the classroom and then compare this to the motivation theory that you learned earlier in the course.

One to One assignment

The One-to-One assignment demands that you find a real non-English speaking student who you will then interview to determine a specific learning requirement. You must research and prepare an extended study programme of between 12 and 20 hours study in order to fulfil the learning requirement. Due to time constraints this assignment cannot be taught during the course but it is thoroughly examined for consistency and coherency by your course trainer and feedback is given. This assignment is mainly done as homework.
