The town of Wexford

Steeped in myth and Legend, County Wexford traces its origins to the Celtic tribes who moved westward across Europe and settled on Ireland's south and east coast.

County Wexford (Irish : Contae Loch Garman) is one of the twenty-six traditional counties of the Republic of Ireland and is located in the province of Leinster. It was named after the town of Wexford, an old Viking settlement situated on the river Slaney and it is here that the Anglo-Norman invasion began. It remains the 13th largest county and the 16th largest in terms of population.

County Wexford has a great deal to offer both in a historical and modern capacity. The town itself comprises a friendly and cosmopolitan setting with narrow winding streets, a pretty quayside and is within close proximity of many fine beaches, listed walks, and famous landmarks. In the heart of Slaney valley stands the beautiful Gothic designed Cathedral along with the 12th Century Norman Castle which houses the County museum.

There is a diversity of tourist attractions and excellent facilities as well as the fact that Wexford enjoys the warmest and sunniest climate in Ireland.

Wexford's cosmopolitan outlook has made it very attractive to international companies and a growing tourist industry. It has also welcomed many presidents and ex-presidents. The American people presented Wexford with a statue of John Barry, a Wexford man hailed as the founder of the US Navy.

The former US President, John Fitzgerald Kennedy, made a visit to the town of his ancestors just a short time before his untimely death. Other distinguished guests include Dwight Eisenhower and Mayor Daly of Chicago. In 1982 Wexford became the "Twin Town" of Coueron, France, a most fitting ceremony to celebrate its position as a "Major Irish Gateway to Europe".

In terms of evening entertainment, experiencing the thrill of a real Irish pub is a must. You can take part in any of the traditional music sessions or simply enjoy a drink , good food and friendly surroundings. Wexford also hosts a new opera house, concert hall as well as many museums ad art galleries.

Current exhibitions of various artists are ongoing and as regards the theatre, there is always a fantastic range of quality productions throughout the year.

There is plenty to choose from when it comes to eating out at very affordable prices. Traditional Irish pubs provide an extensive and competitively priced bar food menu, whereas other restaurants offer national and international cuisine.

The EBC training centre is located at the Wexford Business Enterprise centre near Wexford town.

Its 3.5 km from the town centre which is a 5 min drive .There is either the option of the local bus service or sharing a taxi with other TEFL students.

The business centre hosts a main reception area, a large cafe and toilet facilities. The business centre itself is comprised of many departments including the local chambers of commerce as well as other small businesses. The cafe is open 9am-3pm daily and you will find the atmosphere friendly and helpful.
