Why choose EBC?
Top quality training
The EBC International TEFL Certificate course exceeds internationally accepted guidelines that state that a TEFL training course must have 100 hours of training including 6 hours of teaching practice. The EBC International TEFL Certificate course has 150 hours of training and a total of 24 dedicated to teaching practice. Our course is accredited and meets British Council requirements for teachers in its accredited schools.
Click here for more information about the course.
Your course trainers are TEFL experts with years of EFL teaching and TEFL training experience. You are the best, so you get trained by the best.
Accreditation and international acceptance
With years of experience and graduates working all over the world, our global contacts in the field that have employed EBC graduates attest to the quality of our teachers and our programmes. Language companies that also offer CELTA and Trinity courses also hire EBC graduates.
Our graduates have told us that some of the language schools that we introduce them to (part of our lifetime job placement assistance program) have said that they give priority to EBC graduates.
Finally, the EBC course is accredited by a British Council acknowledged examination board, Ascentis. This means that many more doors will be open to you regarding jobs. The British Council is a case in point. You can only work for them if you have a qualification, like our EBC International Certificate in
TESOL, that meets their teaching qualification requirements.
Jobs
We have an unrivalled job placement assistance programme that so far has had a 100% success rate in getting people working within a week or less of finishing the course.
Lifetime support
Whatever advice you need regarding jobs or your teaching
career you can always contact EBC. We will always be there
to lend a hand if you need it regardless of how long ago you
studied with us.

What's the difference between TESOL and TEFL?
The EBC course not only covers TEFL and teaching to all age groups, it also
covers TESOL which is a different teaching method.
TEFL defined
The TEFL method is used to teach English to people in a country where English IS NOT the local language, e.g. teaching English in
Spain, Argentina, Greece etc.
TESOL defined
The TESOL method is used to teach English to people in a country where English IS the local language, e.g. teaching English in the USA.
TEFL vs. TESOL
The main difference between the two teaching methods revolves
around communication which is the key to successful teaching.
In a TEFL environment your class will have a common language, e.g. Spanish
if you are teaching in Spain. As you are teaching in a
Spanish speaking country, in an emergency (if you can speak some
Spanish) you can make an explanation in Spanish that everyone will understand.
In a TESOL environment your class will NOT have a common language. Your class can be from any country. Your
class will be composed of immigrants or foreign students that want to learn
English e.g. from Russia, China, Jordan, Brazil, France, Spain, Argentina
etc. This means that you are forced to communicate in English or some other
non-verbal form in order to explain something to your class.
For this reason we offer a dual award TEFL and TESOL certificate
course so that you are able to use either teaching method.

What accreditation organisations are legitimate?
Only government recognised organisations are legitimate.
The EBC TEFL course has been accredited as being at QCF level 4 by Ascentis a National Awarding Body.
Ascentis is a National Awarding Body, approved by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) and is licensed by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA).
- The QCA and QAA are both British Government organisations
- The QCA oversees the National Awarding Bodies
- The QAA ensures that higher education qualifications are of a sound standard
Ascentis is listed on the British Council Website as a recognised examination board.
If you see any others out there, as they say, "Caveat
emptor", buyer beware, because they could be home-grown.

What are Ascentis, QCF level 4, QCA and QAA?
The EBC International Certificate in TESOL has been accredited as being at QCF level 4 by Ascentis a National Awarding Body that is approved by the QCA and is licensed by the QAA.
OK! What do these acronyms mean?
Ascentis
Ascentis is a British National Awarding body (a recognised examination board). Ascentis is approved by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) and is licensed by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA).
QCF level 4
QCF is short for Qualifications and Credit Framework, a structure designed by the QCA to meet the following needs:
"The Qualifications and Credit Framework
(QCF) sets out the levels against which a
qualification can be recognised.
It helps learners make informed decisions
about the qualifications they want to
pursue, by comparing the levels of
different qualifications and identifying
different progression routes.
The accreditation of qualifications
makes sure they are of a high quality
and that they meet the needs of
learners and employers."
The EBC International Certificate in TESOL is at QCF level 4. Other QCA certificates are CELTA and Trinity Cert.TESOL, so the EBC International Certificate in TESOL is at peer level with these two.
QCA
The QCA is the Qualifications and Curriculum Agency. The QCA's job is to develop the national curriculum, improve and deliver assessments, and review and reform qualifications.
QAA
The Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) checks how UK universities maintain their own academic standards and quality.

How do I get my qualifications authenticated and legalised?
EBC wishes to thank ex-Buenos Aires graduate Matthew Ronald
for the following article regarding getting your EBC
certificate legally registered for international acceptance
under the Hague Convention. Matthew has been through this
procedure in order to get a work visa for Mexico where he is
currently working.
If Matthew had taken a course that is not accredited by one of
the
organisations shown above, his certificate would have been
worthless and he would NOT have been able to get a work visa.
The following applies to the authentication for legal
purposes of EBC certificates and degree certificates (APOSTILLES)
When working in countries outside of the European Union, schools will often ask for your EBC certificate and your
DEGREE
certificate to be APOSTILLED.
They ask for this so that they can present legally
authenticated documents
to their government to get your visa application processed.
In more developed foreign countries you will not be able to
get a visa without authenticated documents and will be unable
to teach legally, if at all.
In order to apostille or authenticate your EBC International Certificate in TESOL, you will
need to send it to:
The Legalisation Office,
Norfolk House (West),
437 Silbury Boulevard,
Milton Keynes,
MK9 2AH.
UK Phone: 01908 295 111
Outside UK Phone: +44 1908 295 111
You must send the EBC International Certificate in TESOL (THE
CERTIFICATE ISSUED BY ASCENTIS) because it is
an officially recognised UK qualification. The UK will ONLY
issue an apostille for qualifications from officially
recognised British institutions like Ascentis.
In addition you must also have your UNIVERSITY DEGREE
CERTIFICATE authenticated for legal purposes. This
authentication must be done in the country
where your degree was issued. There are similar agencies in all
countries that can put the APOSTILLE on your degree
certificate.
TO SUMMARISE:
- YOU NEED TO AUTHENTICATE YOUR EBC CERTIFICATE FOR
LEGAL PURPOSES IN BRITAIN (LONDON
LEGALISATION OFFICE). There are no offices in Scotland or
Wales only in London.
- YOU NEED TO AUTHENTICATE YOUR DEGREE CERTIFICATE FOR
LEGAL PURPOSES IN THE
CORRESPONDING LEGALISATION OFFICE IN THE COUNTRY WHERE YOU
WENT TO UNIVERSITY.
As an example: If you have an American Degree and the EBC
certificate, it means that you'll have to get two different apostilles, one from Britain and one from the USA.
These are not EBC's rules, it is standard government and
international diplomatic protocol.
The APOSTILLE is proof that
you haven't just printed these certificates off by yourself or
got them from a bogus TEFL school or university.

Who will train me
As you are the best, we believe that you should be taught by people who are experts in TESOL TEFL. Our trainers each have, on average, 10 to 15 years experience teaching English as a foreign language. In addition to TESOL TEFL experience, our EBC TEFL trainers hold BAs and Masters degrees in just about every language related area you can think of.
Our trainers also give external lectures on teacher training, organise UNICEF English summer camps and have authored TESOL TEFL text books and audio tapes. These people know their subject and even more importantly, they know how to teach it effectively.
By comparison, other courses insist on 5 years or even less TESOL TEFL experience and in some cases don't even insist that the their trainers have a degree.

What does EBC stand for?
EBC stands for Executive Business Communication because EBC
started life in Madrid in 1995 as a language school dedicated to teaching
business English to executives.
The story of why it got shortened to EBC comes
down to the first secretary. After several attempts at
trying to say the full name, she politely asked to shorten the
name to EBC. Since then the abbreviation has stuck.
