British Council - opens more doors to TEFL jobs

Q: Why is British Council acceptance important?

A: MORE TEFL JOB OPPORTUNTIES.

Beware of inaccurate claims

The only way to ensure that a course really offers training that meets British Council standards is to check for yourself using the British Council's own certification standards for teachers in its accredited schools.

The standards are that:

  • the course is externally moderated by a reputable organisation (an examination board or university),
  • the course has at least 100 contact hours,
  • the course has at least 6 hours of observed teaching practice.

If the course fails on any of these three points, the British Council will not accept the certificate as being official.

Most courses fail on the first point because the British Council does not accept the external moderator as being official.

EBC meets all of the above criteria - check for yourself
