Introduction for prospective students

EBC runs an accredited, one month, DUAL award TEFL TESOL intensive training programme that will give you all the skills you will need to get an entry level job teaching English as a foreign language.

At the end of the course you will be awarded two certificates:

    1. the Advanced Certificate in TESOL
    2. the EBC International TEFL Certificate

When you graduate, EBC's lifetime, world-wide career support service will have you interviewing and working within a week or less of finishing the course.

Why is a TESOL TEFL dual award important?

The EBC course not only covers TEFL and teaching to all age groups, it also covers TESOL which is a different teaching method.

TEFL defined

The TEFL method is used to teach English to people in a country where English IS NOT the local language, e.g. teaching English in Spain or Argentina.

TESOL defined

The TESOL method is  used to teach English to people in a country where English IS the local language, e.g. teaching English in the USA.

TEFL vs. TESOL

The main difference between the two teaching methods revolves around communication which is the key to successful teaching.

In a TEFL environment your class will have a common language, e.g. Spanish if you are teaching in Argentina or Spain. As you are teaching in a Spanish speaking country, in an emergency (if you can speak some Spanish) you can make an explanation in Spanish that everyone will understand.

In a TESOL environment your class will NOT have a common language. Your class can be from any country. Your class will be composed of immigrants or foreign students that want to learn English e.g. from Russia, China, India, Brazil, France, Spain, Argentina etc. This means that you are forced to communicate in English or some other non-verbal form in order to explain something to your class.

For this reason we offer a dual award TEFL and TESOL certificate course so that you are able to use either teaching method.

High quality accredited training and certification

The EBC training course is given by highly qualified trainers with an average of 15 years experience each.

The course is accredited by the College of Teachers, its content has been independently reviewed by TEFL TESOL experts and its content exceeds international guidelines.

The College of Teachers is a British government regulated examination board that is also recognised by the prestigious British Council as a valid TEFL TESOL awarding organisation.

The Advanced Certificate in TESOL meets British Council (BC) standards and is truly internationally recognised and more importantly, internationally ACCEPTED.

The BC will ONLY hire teachers that have a certificate that meets its requirements. Almost all other certificates do not meet BC requirements, so you will have the advantage of access to a much wider choice of jobs with the BC in 109 countries.

As you have a high-quality certificate, non-BC language schools will also be very interested in you.

Certification that gives you maximum access to jobs

The Advanced Certificate in TESOL opens doors to jobs with language schools and with the British Council, an international organisation that has schools in 109 countries around the world with good pay and conditions.

This means that just about any country you want to teach in will have a British Council school in it somewhere. Many language schools around the world, that you also qualify to work for, use the British Council requirements as their own standard for hiring.

NOTE: You don't have to be British to work for the British Council.

A course that is accent tolerant

Unlike some other accredited courses that focus on British English, EBC is accent tolerant.

We don't mind what type of English you use as long as it is correctly used and consistent, e.g. if American English is used then all vocabulary, spelling, pronunciation etc. must be consistent within the rules of American English.

Quick access to a job paying full market rates

To date, we have a 100% success record in getting our course graduates working regardless of their nationality or the passport that they hold.

For example, over 650 Americans have taken our course in Madrid and they have all found work after graduating. All graduates that wanted to start work as soon as they graduated found work within a week or less after the course finished.

Lifetime career support

EBC has a language school database that you will be given access to upon graduation. There are almost 900 schools on the database from all around the world to which you may apply when and where you want to. We will also be happy to answer questions and help out if you need assistance in other career issues. The support is there as long as you need it.

Help finding flights, accommodation and health insurance

EBC has a list of recommended accommodation that you are free to use. All of the recommended accommodation has been used by previous course graduates so you know that it is reliable.

We refer you to the accommodation providers directly so that you pay less (no middle man) and so that you can get the accommodation that you want.

We also recommend cheap flight sites, we have a discount agreement with AESU and we can refer you to reputable insurers should you want to get private medical and travel coverage.

Toll free phone support

EBC does not believe that you should pay to ask us questions so we have toll free phone numbers that can be used from Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the UK and the USA .

You can even use these after you've graduated as part of our lifetime career support service. If you cannot access one of our toll free numbers, just call us, leave a message and we'll call you back.

EBC has a list of testimonials given by course graduates and gives you access to previous course graduates so that you can ask them for independent references.

We also have a system that allows you to get in direct contact with previous course graduates by email so that you can ask them privately for unbiased information about their experience on the course and about EBC's career support service.

Independent, third party verification of who we are and what we say

Many people are concerned about courses, are they reliable?, is what is say really true? etc. EBC’s answer to these concerns is simple:

  1. We provide you with a way to privately contact previous course students;
  2. We are externally moderated by a UK government regulated examination board, the College of Teachers (CoT).

The CoT has checked and approved:

  • Our course;
  • Our course syllabus;
  • Our course material;
  • Our course trainers;
  • Our review and assessment procedures;
  • Our web site and what we say on our web site. 

If EBC does not comply with the CoT code of practice then they will take away our accreditation and we will become one of the hundreds of other dubious unaccredited or self-accredited courses that are on offer.

The EBC course is run 10 times a year so you can join when it best suits your needs. The course fee depends on which currency you prefer to pay in.
